In the Beginning...
The All Faith Consortium is the epitome of a grassroots, community based organization developed by concerned persons in the District of Columbia to respond to the critical needs of our community's most vulnerable members.
Impressed with the magnitude of support generated by Washington area churches, temples and concerned families for the Million Man and Family March, District of Columbia Council Members contacted march organizer, Minister Marvin Muhammad, in the Fall of 2000 to discuss how this powerful synergy could be directed to address the District's most pressing human service needs.
In November 2000, a meeting was held with several Council Members, representatives of the Mayor, the Director of the Department of Human Services, the Director of Employment Services and a myriad of community ministers, pastors, rabbis, lay leaders and concerned individuals. Together, these parties agreed to join forces to do whatever was necessary to strengthen the District's families and begin to ameliorate the devastating problems confronting District residents. This meeting culminated in the formation of the All Faith Consortium, which was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization a couple of short months later-in January 2001.
